Il y a quelques temps Etienne Klein recevait Thierry Breton. Il lui rappelait que sa carrière avait commencé par un succès de librairie. "Soft war", ouvrage d'anticipation qui traitait d'intelligence artificielle. Thierry Breton, un peu embêté ?, a répondu en substance, que l'on commençait à s'intéresser au sujet en ces temps là.
En 1982, le Japon lançait la "5ème génération" d'ordinateurs. Voici ce que dit un livre que j'ai acheté à cette époque et que le Times avait qualifié de : "undoubtedly the year's most important book about computers".
THE FIFTH GENERATION is the story of the new super breed of computers now being planned by the Japanese. The computers will contain knowledge, think and make decisions better than any human. The Fifth Generation will shift every cornerstone of our societies. It will change the way we think of ourselves as intelligent beings. Above all, it will determine a new balance of power in the world. Just as the West found itself oil-dependent on the Middle East in the 1970s, it will find itself knowledge-dependent on the Japanese in the 1990s when knowledge really will be power.
Résultat ? La montagne a accouché d'une souris.
J'ai cru à la science. J'ai pensé que l'on ne pourrait pas dire n'importe quoi. J'ai eu tort. Nous vivons à une ère de marketing. Ce qui compte est ce qui fait vendre. Il se trouve que le mot "intelligence artificielle" plaît au peuple, quelle que soit sa signification ou son passé. Alors on le lui sert.
